Geia Sas!!
I am currently writing from the floor of my bathroom, in pitch darkness, with only 30 minutes of battery remaining on my laptop. I have just sat through the worst of storms Brisbane has to offer. I can’t tell you very much about the size or magnitude of the storm because all the power lines are down in the area and I have no access to the internet to view the forecast. I have never felt so frightened by a simple storm, but it feels as though a tornado has hit above me. My family are at work, so I sit here, alone, terrified, on the tiled floor with my cat and my dog.
I close my eyes and think of brighter, happier times. I think of the time, a couple of weeks ago, when I ventured to London for Fashion Week and spent the remainder of my days exploring the different cities in the many countries of Europe, immersing myself in the different cultures.
When I was younger, I would always dream of walking down Rue Cambon and feeling like a woman of Chanel. I dreamt of following the Siene downstream on my bicycle, whilst enjoying a Parisian baguette. I dreamt of walking over the Ponte Vecchio to reach the Medicci Castle, in Florence. Okay, I know you're all thinking, 'Yeah, yeah, we’ve all had those dreams lovey', but it’s more about knowing that the dreams must turn into reality at some point.
GREECE.
It all started on the captivating and somewhat mysterious land of Athens. I marvelled over the remnants of the Parthenon, the Panathenaic Stadium and the Acropolis Museum. My tour guide captivated me with historical stories, and the Olympic Truce that kept Greece away from the bloodshed of the Roman Gladiators. I explored the Theatre of Dionysis Eleuthereus, and wondered what it would have been like to sit and watch a theatrical performance in the amphitheatre in the BC era. On my day off, I travelled west to the ancient town of Pisa (or Pisatis), where the first Olympia Games were held. I learnt some Greek, 'poli kala efharisto', and read books on ancient Greek mythology in the local book stores. I walked along the ancient athletics fields that held the Olympia Games and tried to outrun the tour guide on the track field, but I was no match for the real Greek athletes. At the end of the day, I learnt about the extraordinary tales that binds Greece as one nation. I learnt of the struggles and sacrifices that it has endured economically and the political banter that it now faces. Greece, a beautiful country with a beautiful story to tell… Because it is indeed the country of Hercules.
I also got the opportunity to venture to the magical island of Mykonos. I did all things touristy... splashed around, got a glorious tan on the infamous Psarou beach (though I didn't see any celebrities), where the music plays nonstop, and danced all night long to the sound of freedom. Admittedly, I also drank Greek Ouzo like it was water. I also visited the ancient ruins of Delos, and played eye-spy for the exceptionally beautiful Greek boys. Oh and how could I forget, the cliff jumping! It was the most terrifying experience of my life (apart from this storm) but it was definitely one to remember and one to tick off my bucket list! It is a must do in the Greek Islands!
Here are some photos of my trip to Greece.
Stay beautiful,
